What is PY GC-MS analysis?

PY GC-MS analysis is a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technique used to analyse volatile organic compounds.

The first step in PY GC-MS analysis is pyrolysis of the sample. This technique breaks down the molecules in the sample into volatile fragments, which can be easily analysed by gas chromatography (GC).

Gas chromatography is then used to separate the volatile compounds according to their polarity and molecular weight. The volatile compounds are injected into a chromatographic column, where they are separated according to their chemical properties.

Finally, the separated compounds are analysed by mass spectrometry (MS), which identifies volatile compounds on the basis of their unique fragmentation spectra.

PY GC-MS analysis is widely used in fields such as chemistry, biology, geology, the environment and the food industry. It is particularly useful for analysing volatile organic compounds in complex samples, such as food products, polymers, petroleum products, soils and sediments. It can also be used to detect contaminants and impurities in food products and medicines.
